Hello people,
I apologize for having been away from my blog. My cousin recently got married, and as we all know, one wedding function in Pakistan means an entire week of celebration. So we had the dholki (which is when the family start the official ceremony with dinner, dancing and music) going up to the Prayer function, Nikkah, wedding and walima. The walima was held at Royal Palm Golf Club, in their Bab al Shams marquee, which was absolutely wonderful. So nice it was, I am thinking of having my own wedding here in this very marquee!
Today was election day in Pakistan. I didn’t vote because I am one of the few who is boycotting the election. It’s a public holiday, and so I slept in. I know it’s a sensitive issue. Why didn’t I vote? Why didn’t I exercise my right to vote and have a say for the sake of democracy? I could have voted the lesser of two evils, as some told me. But I had my own opinion about elections.
In my opinion, this election this time round is not free and fair, despite the presence of foreigners as observers. I say elections are not free and fair not because I want to, but because sources from my dad’s contacts within the government say so. The results will be rigged, and even today as soon as the polling stations were closed, there were reports of rigging. In one small village, a man grabbed all the papers meant for the women to vote on and disappeared!
We will find out the results tonight. I only hope and pray for Pakistan. I don’t have much faith and trust in whoever would win tonight.
More news to come as soon as I get some free time to blog!
